(Costa Rica) Postgraduates Program at University for Peace

Headquartered in Costa Rica, the United Nations-mandated University for Peace (UPEACE) was established in 1980 as a Treaty Organization by the UN General Assembly. As determined in the Charter of the University and endorsed by the UPEACE Council, the mission of the University for Peace is: “to provide humanity with an international institution of higher education for peace with the aim of promoting among all human beings the spirit of understanding, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, to stimulate cooperation among peoples and to help lessen obstacles and threats to world peace and progress, in keeping with the noble aspirations proclaimed in the Charter of the United Nations.”

PRIO Student Scholarships (2009)

The International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO) regularly announces student scholarships for master’s degree students who have completed their coursework and are in the process of writing their theses.

Scholarships are granted for a period of six to twelve months. For successful applicants, PRIO offers a monthly stipend of NOK 3,500. Students may be in residence at their home university or at PRIO’s offices in Hausmanns gate 7 in Oslo.  Students in residence at PRIO will be given access to institute facilities – library services, photocopiers, etc. Each student will be assigned a supervisor from among PRIO’s staff and encouraged to take part in the institute’s  scholarly activities. Gruber Foundation for Justice Prize

The Peter and Patricia Gruber Foundation’s Justice Prize honours individuals who have advanced the cause of justice as delivered through the legal system. The award is intended to both acknowledge individual efforts and encourage further advancements toward bringing about a fundamentally just world. The prize — a gold medal and an unrestricted $500,000 cash award — is an international award presented annually. Recipients are selected by a distinguished panel of international legal experts from nominations that are received from around the world. Nominations may be submitted by individuals, organisations or institutions that are active in or have an appreciation for the theory and practice of justice. Self-nominations are not accepted. All nominations materials must be submitted in English. Application Deadline: 15 December 2008.
