African Palliative Care Nurses Scholarship Fund

The African Palliative Care Association (APCA) in partnership with FHSSA (previously the Foundation for Hospices in Sub Saharan Africa) provides a limited number of scholarships each year for Palliative Care Training opportunities for nurses. The Scholarship fund was established by a generous anonymous donation in honour of Kath Defilippi, the founding Board Chair of the African Palliative Care Association to recognise her many career achievements as a nurse in hospice and palliative care in Africa. Scholarships are awarded up to a maximum of US$ 4,000 through a competitive application process once a year. APCA and FHSSAgive priority to requests of Registered and Enrolled nurses to pursue formal palliative care training in Africa. For further information, visit the link.

UPEACE-IDRC PhD Doctoral Research Awards and PhD Fellowships

The Africa Programme of the University for Peace (UPAP) has secured funding from the Canadian International Development Research Center (IDRC) to build research capacity in Africa in  Governance and Security Studies. This research grant cycle is a second one received from IDRC after the first one that UPEACE received in 2007 and that focused on developing research capacity in Peace, Conflict and Development. The present grant comes from two programs within IDRC, the Fellowships and Awards Program (F&A) and the Governance, Security and Justice Program (GSJ). Support from the two programs will enable UPEACE Africa programme to train a total of 30 PhD candidates registered with universities in Sub Saharan Africa. Deadline: 31 March 2012
